Guardian newspaper calls for the assassination of Bush

Charlie Brooker in yesterdays Guardian called for the assassination of US President George Bush.

On November 2, the entire civilised world will be praying, praying Bush loses. And Sod's law dictates he'll probably win, thereby disproving the existence of God once and for all. The world will endure four more years of idiocy, arrogance and unwarranted bloodshed, with no benevolent deity to watch over and save us. John Wilkes Booth, Lee Harvey Oswald, John Hinckley Jr - where are you now that we need you?

I guess Brooker means that the 50% or more of the US population that support Bush are not "civilised".

It's one thing to write tabloid trash but it is quite another thing to call for the assassination of a sitting US President one week before elections.

There is a link on the left under UK Media Complaints if you care to write and complain, I am.

UPDATE: Scott Burgess has Brooker's email address. Here it is:

charlie.brooker@zeppotron.com

Please email him and call for a retraction and an apology.

Charlie Brooker writes a frenetically comical TV column TV each week in the Guardian ridiculing pretty much anything that comes into view. Sure, his comments here were stupid, but the reaction from parts of the USA - and on this weblog - are nothing short of ludicrous.

But hey, you are supporting a the conservative religious candidate for president who doesn't go to church; who's companions in Bible Study classes don't know the Bible; who regularly gives speeches one bit at a time as words are fed into his ear piece; who managed to turn the enormous amount of sympathy that the world had for the USA following 9/11 into bizarrely unbridled hatred; and who's campaign coordinator has an open contempt for the democratic process.

But hey, in the interests of world unity here's an idea. Maybe the rest of the world will stay out of the US election if the US will stop treating the rest of the world like its personal bitch.
