Iraq - Volcker "Annan Not Exonerated"

It appears to me that the UN secretary general, Kofi Annan, has been caught red handed lying. Here is what Annan said.

"After so many distressing and untrue allegations have been made against me, this exoneration by the Independent Inquiry Committee obviously comes as a great relief," Annan said.

However,

But soon after that press conference, a member of the inquiry committee, Mark Pieth, said that the secretary-general had gone too far. Pieth had been standing outside the room where Annan made the comments.

"We did not exonerate Kofi Annan," Pieth said then. "We should not brush this off. A certain mea culpa would have been appropriate."

Then, two of the three lead investigators quit in protest over the committees findings.

Now, Roger Simon quotes the New York Sun saying even Volcker now says he did not exonerate Annan. Scroll down to this: Oil-for-Food Follies Continued

In an interview with Fox News' Eric Shawn, to be broadcast today, Mr. Volcker said of Mr. Annan, "I thought we criticized him rather severely. I would not call that an exoneration."

Here is some of the evidence Volcker continues to overlook that may have prompted the two investigators to quit in protest.

And since Annan's right hand man destroyed 3 years worth of oil for food documents, the day after Volcker was appointed to head the investigation, it looks like it's up to Congress to get to the bottom of the UN scandal.

Whatever happens, it is way beyond time for Annan to quit and it's high time the world admitted what a corrupt organization the UN is.
