America - Chickenhawk Doesn't Fly

Whenever someone speaks in favor of war, the left's response is unless you or someone you love serves in the military, you're a chickenhawk. The follow up taunt is, why don't you send your children to war then?

Let's dispense with this nonsense, shall we?

I'll start with the second one as it's the easiest to shoot down (pun intended).

The left seem to think our military is made up of children. This is demeaning, no surprise there, and inaccurate. The military is an all volunteer force made up of adults. So, one cannot "send" "children" to war. Our sons and daughters who are adults must make up their own minds on how they stand on war.

The chickenhawk slur is a little more subtle. I've had this slur tossed at me on many occasions. My response is, I've done my time having served 20 years active duty and 10 years reserve in the Navy. But that doesn't really address this ploy of stifling argument by the left.

You can actually turn the slur against the left by saying, if you haven't served you cannot speak out for or against war. See how it stifles debate - both ways?

Winds of Change shows how this ploy can be used in many other arguments.

No one who could be and isn't serving should speak out on Iraq;

No one except women of child-bearing age should speak out on abortion;

No one who isn't poor should speak out on welfare;

No one who isn't in school should speak out on education;

No one who isn't (I can't decide on this one between 'a criminal' and 'a victim of crime') should speak out on criminal justice.

There are many other examples in the comments section of the WOC post.

Keep these in mind next time some leftie tries to stiffly debate.

UPDATE

Donald Sensing has more.
