BRITAIN is regarded as a safe haven by Islamic extremists because it has failed to crack down on them despite urging other countries to do so, the president of Pakistan has warned.
In an interview with The Sunday Times, General Pervez Musharraf suggested that Britain had paid a price for putting the right of free speech before the need to curb militant Islamic organisations that openly advocate violence.
“They should have been doing what they have been demanding of us to do — to ban extremist groups like they asked us to do here in Pakistan and which I have done,” he said.
In particular, he said, Britain should have banned Al-Muhajiroun and Hizb ut-Tahrir, groups that he accuses of preaching anger and hatred and of calling for his own assassination.
“They could have banned these two groups. Good action is when you foresee the future and pre-empt and act beforehand, instead of reacting as in the case of Britain — which waited for the damage to be done and is now reacting to it.”
Here is why he is right.
LONDON, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Muslims living in Britain are facing two choices; either to migrate or to join the jihad, a key Islamic figure has said.
Sheikh Omar Bakri Muhammed, leader of the now officially disbanded Islamic militant group Al Muhajiroun told United Press International Saturday that as the covenant of security under which Muslims previously lived in Britain has been broken, Muslims must now consider themselves at war.
"And I declare we should ourselves join the global Islamic camp against the global crusade camp," he said.
He called on Muslims to form a new coalition united behind al-Qaida with Osama Bin Laden as their leader.
Then in April this year, just before the Muslim terrorist attacks on London, he warned us:
On April 20th of this year, just over two months before the attack, Bakri bragged that he knew personally that British Muslim terrorists would attack London.
One "very well organised" group in London calling itself al Qaeda Europe "has a great appeal for young Muslims", he said. "I know that they are ready to launch a big operation."
And you may remember the recent scandal over Hizb ut-Tahrir. In which the Guardian was caught red handed, by an American blogger in London, using a Muslim reporter, who was a member of this terrorist organization, to write an article sympathetic to Muslim terrorists. The reporter was eventually fired and the Guardian's executive news editor was forced to resign.
Both of these prove what I've been saying for some time now, we are at war and the enemy is being aided by the British media.
“Many people around the world find it convenient to leave their countries and go to Britain, which they regard as a safe haven as it wants to project itself as a champion of human rights,” Musharraf said.
“But now they (Britain) have to reconsider and take action against these groups.”
Not if Mr Blair's wife, Cherie Booth, a lawyer, has her way.
She told a conference in Malaysia that Britain should not take measures that would "cheapen our right to call ourselves a civilised country".
Mrs. Blair fails to understand that Britain is at war and in times of war civil liberties may suffer temporarily so that the "civilized country" can survive.
It is because of actions like Mrs. Blair's that got us into this mess in the first place.
