Britain - Hate crimes soar after bombings

The BBC reports on the backlash.

Attacks on Muslims have soared in London since the 7 July bombings, according to police figures.

There were 269 "religious hate" crimes, compared with 40 in the same period last year, the figures show.

Most were verbal abuse or minor assaults, but also include damage to property, including mosques and have a great "emotional impact", police said.

Here's a suggestion. How about a million Muslim march to protest against terrorists and terrorism. Muslim protesters could carry posters with the pictures of bin Laden, Hamza the Hook, Bakri, Qaradawi, Zawahiri, and Zarqawi denouncing them by name. They could carry sings saying "Jihad - Not in my name" and "Stop the Jihad". Kinda of like they did when they protested the Iraq war. There was suppose to be a million marching then. How about now? It might go someways towards easing tensions.

You will never see it. The last call for any kind of protest was shot down in favor of "quite vigils" which turned into anti-war protests by George Galloway.

UPDATE

Scott has some questions on what's called a hate crime.
