New Orleans myths: The numbers tell a different story

The American Thinker exposes some myths surrounding New Orleans and the Katrina disaster, but they may be unknowingly spreading another rumour. I mean no disrespect towards The American Thinker whom I link to, quote often and consider friends. This post is not ment as an attack on them.

The reports seemed genuine at the time with some quoting witnesses, but that may be in doubt now.

The article says in part: "Certainly the human tragedy in the city is and has been gruesome - in the Super Dome alone there were at least 6 murders, and 12 rapes among the enclosed evacuees,..."

But as I pointed out in an earlier post, these reports may no be true.

The Guardian (UK) newspaper reports that there are no bodies, witnesses and no victims have come forward. In my post I tracked down who appears to be the source of the rumours - Reuters.

Maybe there are other reports out there that I am unaware of, but the Guardian quotes New Orleans officials.

New Orleans police have been unable to confirm the tale of the raped child, or indeed any of the reports of rapes, in the Superdome and convention centre.

New Orleans police chief Eddie Compass said last night: "We don't have any substantiated rapes. We will investigate if the individuals come forward."

And while many claim they happened, no witnesses, survivors or survivors' relatives have come forward.

Nor has the source for the story of the murdered babies, or indeed their bodies, been found. And while the floor of the convention centre toilets were indeed covered in excrement, the Guardian found no corpses.

We need to get the truth out on this one as it has spread around the world. How does that old saying go, a lie makes it around the world before the truth has its boots on?
