Iraq - 30,000 Dead "Urban Legend"

MSM are all over Bush's words on the number of Iraqi "citizens" killed in Iraq. Some going so far as to misquote Bush as saying 30,000 "civilians" have been killed.

Here is the actual question and answer.

Q Since the inception of the Iraqi war, I'd like to know the approximate total of Iraqis who have been killed. And by Iraqis I include civilians, military, police, insurgents, translators.

THE PRESIDENT: How many Iraqi citizens have died in this war? I would say 30,000, more or less, have died as a result of the initial incursion and the ongoing violence against Iraqis. We've lost about 2,140 of our own troops in Iraq.

And while the BBC are not as blatant they still mislead their readers.

Responding to a question from the audience, Mr Bush said he estimated 30,000 Iraqis have died during and after the 2003 invasion.

Note the BBC don't point out that the number includes military and insurgents.

Michelle has more and notes that some MSM are correcting their stories based on bloggers input.
