Saudi Arabia Asks U.S. to Intervene in Lebanon

Get in!!

The Saudi foreign minister personally urged President Bush yesterday to intervene to stop the violence in Lebanon, the most direct sign of mounting frustration among key Arab states with what they see as a hands-off U.S. posture toward Israeli strikes against Hezbollah.

Get out!!

"We reject Rice's visit to the Middle East and we will expose its real goals," read the leaflets, signed by the National and Islamic Forces in Palestine.

I was channel surfing the news channels last night and on station after station someone, politicians, reporters, pundits, were chanting the same mantra - the US must get involved. This from the same people that chant another mantra - US out of Afgahnistan and Iraq.

If we get involved we're "imperialists" and if we stay out of it, we're "isolationists".

It's hard to please some people.

Meanwhile, no one else is keen to get involved.

Maybe this is one of those times to let the two principals involved fight it out. Israel was attacked and it's now clear that Hezbollah was building quite a sizeable, well armed force just across the border from Israel. Its purpose? Destroy Israel. Lebanon is paying the price for hosting the devil.
