US - What Rove told Novak

I read somewhere that "the popping sounds you're hearing are the heads of leftoids" as they read this.

Columnist Robert Novak said Wednesday that a conversation with White House aide Karl Rove that became an important part of the Valerie Plame affair lasted about 20 seconds.

20 seconds! And what was said in that 20 seconds?

Regarding Wilson's CIA-sponsored trip, Novak said he told Rove, "I understand that his wife works at the CIA and she initiated the mission." The columnist said Rove replied, "Oh, you know that, too."

Note, Novak says he told Rove and not the other way around.

Rove says he remembers it as "Oh, you heard that, too".

Notice what else Novak says.

"I took that as a confirmation that she worked with the CIA and initiated" her husband's mission to Africa, Novak said.

"I took" is not quite the same thing as "Rove confirmed" or "Rove was Novak's source now is it?

Further, it was Novak who initiated the contact and not the other way around.

Novak said he called Rove in July 2003 to talk about a CIA-sponsored mission to Africa...

All of which explains why Rove has been cleared.
