Lebanon - Staged reportings effect on the media

Glenn reports.

"What's new about the press is that so many people who follow it with a critical eye now have an outlet to howl about inaccuracy and partisanship. The big media used to be able to shrug off critics like this. Now they can't."

No, they can't.

Sorry to disagree Glenn, but yes they can.

The question no one seems to be asking is why does MSM keep fabricating stories, doctoring photos, misquoting people and outright lying when they are continually being caught out? Why is it MSM continue to fabricate stories and think they can get away with it? Because they can.

Here's why.

First MSM is far bigger than the much smaller blogsphere, at least that part that scrutinizes and reports on MSM's fabrications. In turn, MSM rarely reports on the scandals uncovered by bloggers. The result is, the larger part of the world is none the wiser about the hoaxes perpetrated upon them by the media. They don't know that many of the photos and videos out of Lebanon were staged. I talked to many people over the weekend and none of them had ever heard of the scandal. It's only when MSM are forced to report on scandals, like Rathergate, that people have an inkling that somethings amiss. But because of their power and reach, MSM are able to spin most of it away. How many people read blogs compared to watch and read MSM?

Second, MSM knows that propagandist around the world will use the story for their own ends. In totalitarian regimes where people's access to free media and the Internet is restricted, the public will hear only the fabricated story. Worse, since it's coming from a "respected" source like the New York Times or the BBC, they have no reason to doubt it.

Third, MSM knows that terrorist sympathizers and those on the left will believe it because they want to believe it. Terry Lane of Australia's Age is a good example. Terry wasn't taken in by a story from MSM, he was part of MSM and was happy to put out a bogus story because:

"I was completely taken in by his fake sincerity. That, I suppose, could be excusable for any person with no responsibility to check bona fides, but in my case I fell for it because I wanted to believe it. "

A high percentage of Americans and Britons beleive that America was behind 9/11. Why? Because they want to believe it. MSM knows this and feeds into it.

From MSM's point of view it's a no lose proposition. A gullible public, totalitarian regimes and a virtual monopoly on the megaphone is a powerful narcotic MSM can't resist. No matter how many times we bloggers give them a hangover in the morning, MSM, like a coke fiend, can't resist another hit. And like an arrogant coke fiend, MSM will continue to abuse itself no matter how many hangovers we give them, until they are broken and defeated.

Drug addicts are in denial and resort to all kinds of deception to continue their habit. They use all the tricks they can to keep the habit going. The BBC is a good case in point for our MSM addict analogy.

The BBC have been caught in so many scandals that even many of their own staff have openly complained. The blogsphere has noticed and several blogs regularly report on the BBC's fabrications and bias. One blog, Biased BBC, us dedicated solely to exposing the BBC.

The BBC's reaction? They regularly visit BBBC and my site, stealth edit the reports we criticize and hope no one notices. But how many people have seen the original and will never see the altered version? Not only that, what's on the website may not be what's reported on air.

Sure, we've had some success. Dan Rather, Eason Jordon, the two top execs at the BBC and numerous journalists have all been fired. Scandal after scandal has been exposed and as a result, many MSM outlets are in steep decline. How different the BBC would look if we didn't have to pay for their propaganda. Yet they continue to knowingly put out fabrications, withhold crucial information (the favorite trick of the BBC) and load their stories with their bias. Why?

Because, Glenn, they can.

Glenn ends with this.

It's not too late for the press to save itself yet. But it's getting close.

I'm not sure it isn't too late. The only way the press can save itself is to purge itself of its left wing bias. And that my friends, is not going to happen.

We can only hope that as broadband, internet access, bloggers, vbloggers and podcasts grow, the public will get more of the truth. Only then will MSM be forced into submission.
