Afghanistan - Nato to extend operations

While BBC extends propaganda.

Current operations in Afghanistan are offensive by NATO to root out the remaing pockets of Taleban and extend the Afghan governments contorl over the entire country. The increased fighting is a result of the Taleban fighting back and not a resurgence on their part. The Taleban are being pushed out of Afghanistan or killed - in huge numbers. While casulties on our side have been extremely light by comparison.

But the BBC would rather you think that the Taleban are back - bigger and badder.

The move will take the alliance into the eastern parts of Afghanistan and bring up to 12,000 American troops under Nato command.

That's along the Pakistani border and brings NATO troop levels up to 30,000.

The announcement came as the US military said that militant attacks near the Pakistani border had tripled in some areas.

The rise in activity comes despite a peace agreement meant to end violence by pro-Taleban militants in Pakistan's North Waziristan border area.

Both points are completely the reverse.

The attacks near the Pakistani border have tripled because we've tripled the number of NATO troops there and are attacking the Taleban. Not the other way round.

The rise in activity isn't despite the peace agreement. The rise is because of the peace agreement. Part of that agreement says that the foreign fighters must leave the area. Now, there will be some along the Pakistani border that will ignore the agreement but there are some who will. In addition, as the Taleban are being killed in huge numbers in Afghanistan, the replacements have to come from Pakistan. Which is why NATO is moving into the eastern provinces - to kill new recruits.

But since the BBC is a left wing rag, they'd rather you thought the Taleban were back - bigger and badder.
