Europe - The new face of young jihadists

Note the reference to London mosques.

Islamists have hitherto pursued a known "combatant career path", featuring certain rallying points (London mosques, organizations, militant activities... [ellipsis as published]) The new fanatics constitute autarkic communities and become radicalized on their own and very quickly, thanks partly to the Internet, without much forewarning.

The only factor that can be exploited by the intelligence services remains the guru, the "religious reference point", who manipulates these youngsters and makes them turn. In France, it was Farid Benyettou, in the case of the Buttes Chaumont group; in Denmark it was a young men nicknamed "Little Imam" or "The Ayatollah". Some groups have contacts abroad, in Saudi Arabia for instance, via the Internet.
