In May 2006, we went to meet Nasrallah in a group of four -- Noam and Carol Chomsky, Irene Gendzier, and myself. We met him in his heavily guarded compound in the Dahieh, the southern suburb of Beirut, reduced to a heap of rubble by the Israeli air force a few weeks later.
This was two months before Hezbollah attacked Israel and kidnapped two of its soldiers. This sparked the latest war in Lebanon. How much did Chomsky know?
It was Chomsky who claimed to have found parts of an Israeli jet Hezbollah claimed to have downed. Later photographs proved Hezbollah had set a tire dump on fire to make it look like a plane had been downed. Chomsky was exposed for the liar he is.
