Without fanfare, the United Nations this week elected Iran to its Commission on the Status of Women, handing a four-year seat on the influential human rights body to a theocratic state in which stoning is enshrined in law and lashings are required for women judged "immodest."
And where women go to jail for having a suntan.
Not to mention lashes and jail for women who are raped. Or, where gays are hung.
Women's groups were gnashing their teeth and foaming at the mouth over Sarah Palin, but say nothing about Islam's treatment of women.
