COVINGTON, La. (AP) — The Obama administration's environmental chief dipped a small cup into the oily mess at the mouth of the Mississippi and was surprised by what came out.
"Oh my God — it's so thick!" exclaimed Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson who toured delicate coastal wetlands that have been invaded by the black and orange crude.
This comes 34 days after the spill
Not only is Obama clueless.
ReplyDeleteSo are the rest of Americans.
Foolishly we relied on oil companies to provide the technology to deal with accidents. Foolishly we never asked them if they had any contingency plans in case of a spill.
And foolishly they never had any emergency plans in case of an accident.
Apparently everything BP is doing to cap the well is being tried for the first time.
It has taken the worst environmental disaster in American history to convince us all that "Drill, Baby, Drill" was a big misguided stupid mistake to begin with

There were and are emergency plans. Inadequate, but not non-existant. The relief wells currently being drilled are the time-tested method of regaining control of a blowout like this. They take time. A lot of time. The other techniques being tried might work - they sometimes work, sometimes don't, under more benign conditions. The underlying principle is to not do anything that makes the problem even worse - whether the well is blowing 5000 or 25,000 barrels per day is arguable, but it is undoubtedly capable of blowing a lot more than it is.
ReplyDeleteIf you want the oil you have to drill where the oil still is. If you drill in some other country you have the same (or more) envoronmental drilling risk, plus a tanker transportation risk - don't forget our second-biggest environmental disaster was a tanker wreck. If you don't want the oil, you can count on a lot of hungry people, here and around the world.
Look, someone's spewing more bilge than the well. Nature is still the biggest spiller of oil, Hamster. Seepage is more than several spills/wrecks combined. DRILLING would relieve some of this seepage, and send the oil to refineries instead of beaches, but, no, drilling is out of the question for you. Of course, you guys never offer any alternatives, except wind/solar/steam/rabbit poop/radish mashing/the latest scam/scheme....you get the idea. Nothing proven, nothing that actually works, because your idea all along is simply to force America back into the stone age, driving the economy down until it collapses. We get it. Now, go sit down and suck on your socialist mop while capitalists save your butt. Again.
ReplyDeleteSome people's children. Sheeesh.
