President Obama has authorized the call-up of 1,200 National Guard troops to the US Mexico border, an administration official confirms, requesting $500 million in supplemental funds.
The enhanced border protection and law enforcement will, “provide intelligence; surveillance and reconnaissance support; intelligence analysis; immediate support to counternarcotics enforcement; and training capacity until Customs and Border Patrol can recruit and train additional officers and agents to serve on the border,” an administration official says.
Isn't this exactly what Bush did years ago?
I'm betting this move is cover for another issue.
ReplyDeleteI'm also betting that 1200 troops might just be enough to interfere with the Arizona law enforcement initiative.
A serious government would build a dozen or so bases and provision a few divisions worth of troops on that border.
Sure, it's all designed to appease his base. Everything Obama is doing know is for that purpose. He can attack the AZ law to appease his base while sending 1200 troops to desk jobs to make it look like he's protecting the border. It's all politics.
