Washington's kneejerk belligerence ignores Tehran's influence and the need for subtle engagement.
Hmm, "kneejerk". How long has Washington allowed the EU3 to negotiate with Iran and the IAEA to carry out inspections? Two and a half years isn't it? Some kneejerk.
As for subtle engagement, calling for Israel, a fellow member of the UN, to be wiped off the map and calling the Holocaust a myth, now that's subtle.
Like Clinton with her "plantation" speech the other day, Jenkins too plays the race card.
Iran is a serious country, not another two-bit post-imperial rogue waiting to be slapped about the head by a white man.
Last time I looked Condi Rice was still black.
Continue reading Jenkins nonsense if you want, but anyone who has been following events in Iran, especially their President's clamp downs and power consolidations, will know Jenkins plan is the most dangerous of all for he ends with this:
If you cannot stop a man buying a gun, the next best bet is to make him your friend, not your enemy.
Jenkins seems to have forgotten that Iran has already declared the West its enemy.
He also blindly believes that even if Iran does want nukes they are for defence alone and since most of the region is full of countries with nukes why shouldn't Iran. What ever happened to the "no nukes" mantra? People protested over US nuclear cruise missles based in the UK, but its ok for a Muslim state that sponsors terrorism and calls for another country to be wiped off the map, to have nuclear missles that can reach southern Europe?
Jenkins talk is as much a danger as nukes themsleves.
