Chemical 'bomb plot' in UK foiled from SCBBC

The plotters were thought to be sympathetic to the aims of al-Qaeda and the intended target was believed to be British civilians, probably in London.

Was there one plot or more? Al-Qaeda is known for multiple simultaneous attacks. So this is interesting:

The New Paradigm of Water Utility Security:No longer a goal of limiting complaints, but limiting casualties from

SJWD Water District

Water utilities are a vital segment of the nationĂ‚’s infrastructure. They are also a key element maintaining public health and supporting the economy. Water utilities are atarget of terrorist attacks. Documents on water treatment uncovered in Afghanistan and arrests of terrorists in Washington July 30, 2002 have confirmed this threat.

Documents have been found in Afghanistan that indicate al-Qaeda terrorist are looking at ways to disrupt U.S. water supplies on a massive scale. These documents include manuals on the treatment processes, utility operation procedures and materials that could be used to attack utilities.

TOXIC INDUSTRIAL CHEMICALS (TICĂ‚’s) (Because these agents are easily detected before they are consumed, they are not considered credible threats to water systems, however, they are the most likely toxic chemicals to be introduced into water systems. They are:

Acrolein, Arsine, Bromine, Chlorine, Chromic acid aerosol, Dimethyl sulfate, Fluorine,Furan, Gluteraldehyde, Hydrogen chloride, Hydrogen sulfide, Methyl mercaptan, Methylhydrazine, Methylethyl ketone, Methyl vinyl ketone, Nickel carbonyl, Nitric acid vapors,Osmium tetroxide aerosol, Phosgene, Stibine, Toluene, Triethylamine

The threat of terrorist attacks on water utilities is real. On July 30, 2002, two men with suspected links to al Qaeda were arrested on charges of planning an attack on a publicwater system.

Hey, probably nothing to it. "Water with your whisky sir?" Er, um, not today Jeeves.
