British troops quell Basra uprising

From The Scotsman

BRITISH troops fought running street battles with gunmen loyal to radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr in Basra yesterday in the heaviest fighting seen in Iraq for several days.

Hundreds of Iraqi militia attacked British patrols and government buildings in the southern city after one of the cleric’s aides offered money for the capture or killing of Coalition soldiers.

The Ministry of Defence said British forces had quelled the attack in which four British soldiers were hurt. They said none of the injuries were life-threatening. Two Iraqis were killed and another captured.

Seems like the Jihad has lost some of that "old time religion". First bin Laden offers gold and now Sadr is paying his thugs. So, Islam is not opposed to a little capitalism then.
