Katrina - Race Card Backfiring

File this under you can't make this stuff up.

I said it before and I'll say it again, some in media and the black community over played their hand using the race card.

First the media were quick to point out that poor blacks were left to fend for themselves in New Orleans, since they had no transport to evacuate themselves. They quickly dropped that charge when it was revealed that the mayor failed to follow his own emergency evacuation plan - the black mayor that is.

Then a black civil rights activist, Randal Robison, was forced to eat his words when claims that blacks left behind by the black mayor were eating their own, proved to be a lie.

Step up race peddler, the Rev. Jesse Jackson. Hallelujah! And can I get an ahmen!!

Seems Jackson was upset that poor blacks were left behind, until it emerged his friend the black mayor, left them behind. What's a race peddler to do?

Aha!! If the President cared so much for blacks how come blacks are not in charge of the rescue opertation of blacks in New Orleans? The Rev. seems to feel that white folk wouldn't help the blacks. Here is what he had to say.

Jackson questioned why Bush has not named blacks to top positions in the federal response to the disaster, particularly when the majority of victims remaining stranded in New Orleans are black: "How can blacks be locked out of the leadership, and trapped in the suffering?"

"It is that lack of sensitivity and compassion that represents a kind of incompetence."

Now, you're not going to believe this next part. The AP writer reports this without skipping a beat and doesn't draw attention to it. At least he reported it. Look at this in the next paragraph after Jackson's rant.

U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Russell Honore, head of the military task force overseeing operations in the three states, is black. His task force is providing search and rescue, medical help and sending supplies to the three states in support of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Of course, that is not why Bush picked him. Nah. You see the thing the AP writer did leave out, is that the General is from Louisiana. Who better to oversee rescue efforts in Louisiana than a native?

Race peddlers lose again.
