"Looking around King's Cross a year later, there is little to suggest the terrorists have affected us psychologically. "
And in a troubling statement...
"They are evidence that people take terrorism in their stride. An inconvenience. "
Which is why the threat continues to grow. It gets worse...
"It is not international terrorism that is changing our behaviour, it is globalisation."
So, all the security checks at the airports and seaports around the globe, the huge recruitment at MI5, the creation of the Department of Homeland security in the US, biometric passports, 70 ongoing terrorists investigations here in the UK (not to mention all the others ongoing around the globe), new anti-terrorism laws, immigration fences in Europe, Spain and the US, calls for immigration controls, all of this and more is not due to al Qaeda but MacDonalds? ?????
This much is true.
"Nor has the "politics of terror" changed much in the past year.
The government may wish to change the rules, but Parliament and the courts appear unpersuaded on the need for a significant extension of powers to detain suspected terrorists without charge."
Which is just another reason why the threat continues to grow. Britain is seen as weak by the terrorists and living in a state of denial. The BBC confirm this view.
"It appears the effects of the outrage are almost as invisible as the outrage itself."
He must have missed al Qaeda's latest video warning.
Mr. Easton, may I suggest you go to the Kings Cross service this morning and see from the victims just how visible the "outrage" is.
