I've been watching and listening to TV coverage of the 7/7 rememberance proceedings. Here are a few thoughts on what I've heard so far.
While much of the day should be devoted to remembering the victims, it's important to listen to what's being said about the events surrouning 7/7.
One theme I've heard time and again today and since 7/7, and we often hear the same thing about other terror attacks, is that the terrorists were poor, uneducated and alienated Muslims. Yet, time and time again we find this is not the case. Some of the 7/7 British Muslim terrorists were educated, well off and joined in many "British activities" such as football. Those that say otherwise are those that try and put the blame on us non-Muslims.
Another theme I'm hearing over and over is that the Police are not doing enough to reach out to the Muslim community. Here again, the blame us mantra. And yet we find out from the Muslim community nothing has been done within the community to address the problem.
Something else that's being asked on some of the shows is what do the terrorist want. No one comes up with the right answer. A reporter once asked a senior al Qaeda leader what did al Qaeda want the west to do. His answer? Die.
I have yet to hear on any of the coverages, talk about what is being preached in mosques. Several undercover investigations here, in Europe, in the Middle East and even in the US, reveals that far from Islam being "hijacked" by militants, it is main stream Islam that is preaching hate. The problem isn't limited to mosques as the text books from Saudi Arabia prove.
Sky News had a report about Muslim orgainizations here in the UK announcing the start of programs to teach that terrorism is not the way of Islam. I didn't hear the organizations named but I'd guess it was the MAB, MCB or both. It's been a year since 7/7 and they just now want to start such a program? Worse, the MAB and MCB both have links to terrorism. Search my blog using MAB and MCB.
The alleged connections to 7/7, Iraq and Afghaistan are constantly being made. No one mentions the attacks on the US embassies, the first attack on the WTC in 1993 or the fact that 9/11 predates both wars. There's never any mention of the failed attept to fly a plane into Parliament on 9/11. There is no doubt those wars are being used to recruit Muslim terrorists but the earlier attacks proves the root cause of Islamic terrorism is Islam itself. And until Muslim reform Islam this will continue.
I haven't heard much if anything about the failed attempt by British Muslim terrorists on 21/7.
The media constantly point out that Muslim terrorists are but a small minority, a tiny fraction, of the Muslim community. But, as reported earlier in this post, the wider Muslim community admits it is doing very little to address the issue. Worse the MAB and MCB are touted by the media and courted by the government as the moderate voice of Muslims in Britain. This dispite their connections to terrorism. Likewise, here and in the US, CAIR is treated the same way and again dispite CAIR's links to terrorism.
Some Muslims claim the 7/7 attacks were an attack on the Muslim community as well. Indeed, Muslim terrorism kills far more Muslims than non-Muslims. How is it then, that when the Muhammad cartoons were published and the Muslim community felt attacked, they took to the streets by the thousands to protest. Not once but twice. Yet there are no such protests against the 7/7 bombers. British Muslims also took to the streets to protest when a mosque was bombed in Iraq killing many Muslims. It seems than when it is only Islam or Muslims who are attacked that Muslims will protest. When us infidels are attacked, not only do they not protest, some took to the streets to celebrate.
In the backdrop to all of this Muslim appeasement is rampant in the UK.
We should remember the victims of 7/7 today but we must learn the lessons that and the other attacks have taught us as well as the failed ones here and around the world. That lesson is that we are at war and will be until Islam is reformed.
