Iraq - securing the borders

one fort at a time.

There are centuries-old histories of conflict among the people occupying the lands along Iraq’s northeastern mountains. For each of 45 new border forts planned for the area, placement was determined by identifying ancient trans-border crossing routes through the mountains that border guards would need to patrol.

As of August, 39 forts have been completed.
