UK - 14 held in terror police swoop

14 held?? 14 What? Goats, horses, cats, dogs, people, what? Men.

Armed police have arrested 14 men overnight following anti-terror raids in London, which included 12 arrests at a restaurant in the Borough area.

Two people were held elsewhere in the city, in what Scotland Yard described at a pre-planned, intelligence-led operation.

Ok, now were they Babtists, plumbers, Sikhs, builders, British, what? Here's the closest the BBC will go to answer that question.

The BBC's Keith Doyle said the restaurant was a halal Chinese.

Are they Chinese Muslims? Not sure but the BBC later on in the report give us another clue.

The restaurant's owner, Madi Blyani, said he had been surprised by the arrival of a large number of police officers.

Doesn't sound Chinese but then again he wasn't arrested.

In a related report the BBC note that the government has thousands of people under surveilance.

Here's something that caught my eye in that report.

BBC reporter Peter Taylor, who spent a year investigating the terror threat, asked Mr Clarke roughly how many people the police were looking at believing they could be involved directly or indirectly in terrorism.

Taylor is due to air his findings from that year long study. Guess what the title of his program is? "Al-Qaeda: Time to talk?"

Taylor obviously learned nothing from his year long study. It will be interesting to see what he has to say. Al-Qaeda: Time to talk? will be shown on Sunday 3 September on BBC Two at 2100 BST.

Do a search of the BBC website for Peter Taylor and you'll find a link on the right sidebar to a trailer for the show. The captions says this:

With the so-called "war on terror" far from won, Peter Taylor asks if it is time to engage with Al Qaeda.

Well gee, bin Laden has already told you what he wants, he wants Islam to rule the world.

Here's a good fisking of Taylor's arguments.
