UK - Race abuse conviction 'landmark'

There's something very disturbing about this case. Before all you trolls jump in, I'm not defending the BNP but this seems to set a dangerous precedent to me.

An anti-racism body has described the conviction of a BNP member for racial abuse despite the victim not coming forward is a "landmark" case.

Robert McGlynn, of Llansamlet, Swansea, was fined by Swansea magistrates for racially aggravated disorderly conduct after abusing an Asian woman.

The woman was never traced but witness Lydia Rees reported the incident.

So we have a classic he said she said case with no other evidence. It gets worse.

Mrs Rees, 43, told magistrates she was shocked to hear him shout "Sieg Heil" and other abuse at the woman through his open car window.

She told the court: "He was shouting. To me it appeared that he was being venomous. His face appeared quite contorted."

She added: "But I could not swear to the words I did hear."

Doesn't sound very convincing to me. Before all the trolls jump in here, think about this for a minute. Are the courts going to convict a Muslim of inciting terrorism simply because a non-Muslim says they heard him doing it but there are no other witnesses and no victim? I don't think so.

If a victim had come forward or there were other witnesses, I'd be happy he got what he deserved. But without any of that, this seems like dangerous ground we're on here.
