"Lest we forget what the Iraqi war is all about"

Bollocks.

The war was supposed to be about (so far non-existent) Weapons of Mass Destruction, not freeing the Iraqis from dictatorship. Sure, Saddam was not a particularly nice chap, but there are dozens of equally nasty dictators that America has chosen to ignore, most of whom rule countries with no oil. Funny that.

"non-existent wmds"? Might want to puruse my blog to find plenty of links to the WMDs that have already been found. Or even the recent news stories about the wmd parts found in Jordan and the Netherlands. Or maybe UNMOVIC's latest report. Links are on this blog.

I think is interesting that anti-war people critize the US for moving against "nasty dictators" like Saddam and not other "nasty dictators". Are you agruing that the US go after Iran and Syria? I'm for it.

I don't think the US got much oil out of Bosnia or Yugoslava. And weren't the ones being ethnic cleansed by Malosavich (a christian), Muslims?

The first gulf war was about getting Saddam out of Quwait after he invaded and sized their oil fields. After the war America left and returned the oil fields to Quwait. Which proves this war is not about oil.

Funny that, innit.

You miss my point. Yes the mass-graves are appalling, but that wasn't what the war was supposed to be about. Officially, as claimed by Bush, Blair, Colin Powell etc, the war was supposed to be about disarming Saddam Hussein, and not simply removing him & his regime from power for the sake of it.

I personally think that if the US wants to send its soldiers into Syria, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Zimbabwe, Sudan etc. and remove "nasty dictators" then great. But it should be honest and say thats why its doing it, and not hide behind the pretence of WMD. All this does is give people like me a reason to believe the conspiracy theorists who say its all about oil / Junior finishing Daddie's work etc.

Here is a link to President Bush's speech at the UN.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2002/09/20020912-1.html

While WMDs are certainly prominent, just as terrorism is, they are not the only reasons for the war. There were 18 UN resolutions after the first Gulf War in an attempt to get Saddam to comply with his surrender and other UN demands. What is the point of 18 resolutions? When do you act?

From Bush's address to the UN:

"If the Iraqi regime wishes peace, it will cease persecution of its civilian population, including Shi'a, Sunnis, Kurds, Turkomans, and others, again as required by Security Council resolutions. "

The world was outraged at the genocide in Rawanda and with what is happening in the Sudan today. The UN did nothing then or now. The UN did nothing in Bosnia or Yugoslavia; they were NATO actions. The UN did nothing to Saddam because they were too busy lining their pockets from the oil-for-food scandal.

It amazes me that people cry to the UN for something to be done but when the UN won't act and the US acts, the US is critized. The US gets the desired result and UN does not and yet it is the US that gets the worlds rath.

And remember after 9/11 it was Afghanistan that was liberated first, not Iraq. Not much oil there either.
