Freedom turns the tables on terrorists

Looks like when given a choice between strict Islam and freedom, it's a no brainer.

Everywhere you look Muslims have decided the American ideal of freedom is more appealing than strict Muslim teaching.

Just look at recent developments.

In Iraq there has been significant success in tracking down "known bad guys" based on information from local citizens.

And Zarqawi told 'leave Iraq or die'

While in Falluja "Iraqi security forces provided clear and compelling intelligence to conduct a precision strike this evening on a known Zarqawi safe house in southeastern Falluja," he added.

Now in Afghanistan Intelligence agents captured Mullah Mujahid a TOP Taliban commander.

"We got a tip that he was hiding in that house, so we surrounded it and caught him," said Abdullah, who goes by one name.

Now if we can just help the Syrians and Iranians to throw off the yoke of their tyrants.

Good news from Iraq.

I take issue with the phrase 'the American ideal of freedom' though. 'Freedom' is a pretty woolly concept (presumably the ultimate 'free' society is anarchy which I doubt many people are too keen on). Presumably you mean the 'freedoms' of democracy and capitalism, of which the American model is only one type and not necessarily applicable to all societies.

Sweeping away oppressive dictatorships is undoubtedly a good thing but lets be careful about imposing our own economic and governmental ideals. The imposition of 'shock' free market capitalism on post Communist Russia for example was such a monumental balls up that the majority of the population were pining for communism within a couple of years.
