Pakistan - Earthquake: Who's to Blame?

Last week I asked how long would it be before Muslims attributed the Pakistan earthquake to God as punishment for their "sins". I noted that many of the victims were school children and wondered what "sins" they may have committed. Or, perhaps the childrens deaths were punishment to the parents for their "sins". Either way Muslims must surely believe in a cruel God.

Well, it didn't take long.

Preaching from the ruins of his once beautiful mosque, the Mullah of Battal offered a simple answer to the question posed time and again since the Pakistan earthquake: why?

''Allah has sent this great punishment on account of our misdeeds," he said, jabbing a finger at the open sky. "We must now end our rebellion against the orders of Allah and submit ourselves again to his ways."

I guess it just as well for the Mullah that his followers haven't learned about plate techtonics. He would have done them a better service to expose those who are really to blame so it doesn't happen again.

In this small town, perched on the mountain along the Silk Route to China, more than 100 children were killed when their school collapsed.

The destruction of schools where many buildings are still standing has exposed the racket of contractors who skimp on building materials to fatten their profits.

As the mullah's voice cracked, so did the expressions in the front row. Its mostly elderly faces shed tears at the mention of those who were gone.

Earthquakes aren't the only thing the Mullahs lie to their followers about.
