BAGHDAD, April 30 (KUNA) -- A combined force of Iraqi soldiers and Multi-National troops have detained 57 gunmen including foreign fighters in a wide-scale security operation in the southern sector of the Iraqi capital.
The Multi-National Forces said in a statement released on Sunday that seven wanted terrorists were among the gunmen, who were detained in the operation, carried out on Saturday. The operation that targeted hideouts of the gunmen was carried out according to tip-offs, it said, adding that among the nabbed gunmen were a number of members of the shadowy organization, Al-Qaeda.
It added that more than 20 fighters were killed in several operations, carried out in the same region during the past days.
The statement also reported that 15 foreign fighters were killed in a separate operation in the town of Al-Yusufiah south of Baghdad on the 25th of this month.
