NATO forces say a major offensive codenamed Operation Medusa in Kandahar’s Panjwayi and Zhari districts has resulted in the death of over 500 rebels since September 2.


That's in less than two weeks. This is in addition to the over 700 killed prior to this operation.

NATO said Tuesday its forces have regained control of 65 percent of "contested areas" in Kandahar's neighboring Zhari and Panjwayi districts, an area of roughly 50 square miles.
