Iraq - Targeting Journalists

Yesterday I posted about the growing scandal over CNN's Jordan claiming that US troops intentionally target journalists in Iraq.

Bishop Hill note NRO has an earlier claim two years ago by none other than the BBC.

Kate Adie is quoted in this article: PENTAGON THREATENS TO KILL INDEPENDENT REPORTERS IN IRAQ

" I was told by a senior officer in the Pentagon, that if uplinks --that is the television signals out of... Bhagdad, for example-- were detected by any planes ...electronic media... mediums, of the military above Bhagdad... they'd be fired down on. Even if they were journalists ..' Who cares! ' said.. [inaudible] .."

Adie doesn't name the officer or provide a link to a transcript so we don't have any verification or context of the conversation.

Warning people not to use electronic emmisions out of Baghdad while a war is on seems like pretty good advice. It certainly is not the same as ordering troops to target journalists or a threat to kill them as the headline reads.
