Upon his leaving Keith Thompson had this to say:
My estrangement hasn't happened overnight. Out of the corner of my eye I watched what was coming for more than three decades, yet refused to truly see. Now it's all too obvious. Leading voices in America's "peace" movement are actually cheering against self-determination for a long-suffering Third World country because they hate George W. Bush more than they love freedom.
They did the same thing over Vietnam. Not surprising given that the anti-war movement is led by communists.
Nick has this to say:
The result of this inversion of principles has been that liberals can't form alliances with the victims of al-Qaeda in Afghanistan or Iraq any more than the Auden generation could form alliances with the victims of Stalinism.
This isn't simply about international relations. Who is going to help the victims of religious intolerance in Britain's immigrant communities? Not the Liberal Democrats, who have never once offered support to liberal and democrats in Iraq. Nor an anti-war left which prefers to embrace a Muslim Association of Britain and Yusuf al-Qaradawi who believe that Muslims who freely decide to change their religion or renounce religion should be executed. If the Archbishop of Canterbury were to suggest the same treatment for renegade Christians all hell would break loose. But as the bigotry comes from 'the other' there is silence.
Perhaps it will break soon. There always was far more disquiet on the left at this 'rightwards lurch' than the Guardian or Radio 4 admitted. If my emails are a guide, the London bombs have added a practical reason for breaking with the consensus: now they're trying to kill us. Even if people think that the Iraq war has made Britain a bigger target, they are still confronted with a fascistic cult of murder and self-murder which allows no compromise.
The thing to watch for with fellow travellers is what shocks them into pulling the emergency cord and jumping off the train. I know some will stay on to the terminus, and when the man with the rucksack explodes his bomb their dying words will be: 'It's not your fault. I blame Tony Blair.'
My advice to my former comrades is to struggle out of your straitjackets and get off at the next station. It would be good to see you on this side of the barrier.
And it's not just a few who have the power to speak out in the media that are leaving the Left. The British public have had their fill of the Leftist propaganda from the BBC and are tuning the BBC out.
The Left in America are in free fall as well. The Democrats lost the White House, in both houses of Congress and more Governorships. This despite the fact that the Democrats committed widespread voter fraud. In fact, the Democrats are so desperate they use Bush in their ads!!
It's clear to me now that the Muslim terrorist attacks on London were a turning point for the Left. As I said earlier:
The idea that a country could tolerate Muslim terrorists in exchange for saftey from attacks by Muslim terrorists, was blown up on 7/7. And those on the left who championed such a pact with the devil, now have nowhere to run. But instead of fixing the problem they created, the Left, as usual, tries to fix the blame - on us.
But the Devil has made clear his demands and the Left has no answer for him.
Al-Zawahiri did not claim responsibility, but he did set out specifically al-Qaeda's terms for stopping its terrorist campaign, namely that coalition forces should pull out of Iraq, Afghanistan and "the land of Muhammad" (the Muslim world), stop buying oil from the Middle East and stop supporting the region's "corrupt rulers".
This is significant because it suggests that pulling troops out of Iraq alone would not be enough to avert further violence. It also suggests that the West's struggle against al-Qaeda is not going to end any time soon.
The Left sold their soul to the Devil and now they have nothing left to bargain with.
Their only option is to leave the Left and join the Right; and we welcome them.
