Iraq - Blast damages Shiite 'Golden Mosque'

Remember how Muslims around the world protested when US troops even went near a mosque at the outset of the war? Remember also, how Muslims around the world protested at the alleged desecration of the Koran at Guantanamo (a fabricated story by Newsweek by the way)?

But hey, it's ok if Muslims blow up a mosque and destroy countless Korans. Such is Muslim hypocrisy and so much for the vaunted Muslim unity around the world.

Why aren't Muslims around the world protesting this and calling for Zarqawi's head?

You'd think that but you'd be wrong.

The Times (UK) reports on why this is a big deal, who may be behind it and why Muslims around the world should be protesting - against al Qaeda.

"It's one of the foremost important shrines in Iraq," said Alastair Northedge, a Professor of Islamic Art and Architecture at the Sorbonne in Paris who has just completed an archaeological survey of Samarra.

"Najaf and Karbala are the two most important shrines in Iraq but only slightly subsidiary to them are the sites in Samarra and Baghdad.
