The BBC "denied reports that any bosses were in hiding after abusive phone calls, but said unpleasant calls had been received and reported to police."
Sky News is reporting "It is believed that BBC2 controller Roly Keating and director of television Jana Bennett are among those who have been given private security guard protection."
And recently we had this protest.
Hundreds of Sikh demonstrators protested outside a Birmingham theatre against a play depicting sex abuse and murder in a temple.
One has to wonder, what would happen if a TV station or theatre screened Monty Python's "Life of Brian" now? I think they poked fun at every religion, the Palestinians and even the Masons.
If your religion or cause can't take criticism, satire, or being mocked, there is something wrong with it. Criticize, satire, or mock them back but these violent protest show the weakness of their causes.
Protest away, but isn't violence suppose to be against the beliefs of those protesting?
In Iraq there were huge protests as US forces neared mosques considered sacred by various religious groups. The world press had a feeding frenzy, showing pictures of tanks near "sacred" religious sites. Nobody protested when those "sacred" sites were later used to attack US forces. The world press remained silent.
I don't buy into all this "sacred" stuff. A building is a building, we saw that in Iraq, and a relic is a relic. Ok, they are important to the people who worship them but they contain no magical powers other than those bestowed upon them by us mere mortals.
Likewise, the "sacred" writings of long dead religious leaders, divine creatures if you prefer, while they contain powerful messages, are just writings. If followers truly believe they are "the truth" then surely they can withstand any onslaught.
Bin Laden not only exposed the weakness in America's defenses, he exposed how weak the world's religions are as well.
Followers of the world's religions are at this very moment killing innocent people around the globe in the name of their religion. I highly doubt the authors of their sacred texts intended that outcome. If they did, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know there is something very wrong with that religion.
One of the very worst, in my opinion, is Islam, the so called "religion of peace." You don't need to take my word for it, just scan any news source and their atrocities are well documented. Jihad Watch, Dhimmi Watch, and Daniel Pipes are excellent sources as well.
In America, the left are attacking Christians and accuse Bush of injecting his Christian agenda into the government. Some even claim he invaded Afghanistan, not to free the people and give them democracy, but to further his Christian agenda. If that were true, how come the official religion of Afghanistan is Islam?
In the UK and Canada Muslim Sharia law is being introduced.
Where will it all end?
Throughout our history and continuing right up until today, innocent people have been slaughtered in the name of religion. Almost all, indeed probably all wars, have been fought in the name of religion. Innocent people are being butchered if they dare speak out against one religion or another.
The "excuse" I usually hear is that it is not the religion that is the problem, it is that a few followers hijack the religion and twist it for their own ends. If that were true, how do you explain the silence of so called "moderate Muslims" when so many atrocities are being committed in their name? Instead these crimes are celebrated by Muslims around the world.
Before anyone gets all riled up and accuses me of not picking on the other religions, let me say I think they all have a lot to answer for. The current Catholic sex scandal sweeping the US for example.
Sadly, we have not evolved enough as a species yet, to understand our true place in the universe. According to the world's religions, the human race is the center of the universe. Their proof? Their religions.
You see, there has to be an answer to all this, the universe and our being, there just has to be. The human mind will not have any other way. But until the human race admits that we really don't know the answer, yet, the killing will continue.
