IRBIL, June 17 (KUNA) -- An Iraqi citizen from Kurdistan found a chemical bomb Saturday in Seirawan area near Gatha Halabja in northern Iraq as he was reconstructing his house that had been torn down in the eighties.
A security source, quoted by the Kurdish National Union Media, said the bomb was a leftover from mass-destruction weapons of the former Iraqi regime. Halabja was bombarded on March 16, 1988 by chemical bombs. In 1988, 500 citizens were killed and 10,000 more were blinded, maimed, disfigured, or otherwise severely and irreversibly debilitated. Thousands died of horrific complications, debilitating diseases, and birth defects in the years after.
