Dutchman held for 'Iraq genocide'

The BBC reports,

"The man is suspected of delivering thousands of tons of raw materials for chemical weapons to the former regime in Baghdad between 1984 and 1988," prosecutors said in a statement.

The notorious chemical attack on Kurds in Halabja killed an estimated 5,000 civilians.

I think there is a lot more to this story. For instance this,

Prosecutors said the Dutchman had been a suspect since 1989, when he was arrested in Milan, Italy, at the request of the US government. But he was later released and fled to Iraq, where he remained until 2003.

Why did the Italians let him go after arresting him at the request of the US?

And this,

The United Nations suspects the man was a major chemical supplier to the former Iraqi regime, having made 36 separate shipments, including mustard gas and nerve gas originating from the United States and Japan.

How did this guy get the stuff?

So what happened after the US invaded Iraq?

After the US-led invasion of Iraq in March 2003, he returned to the Netherlands via Syria, the Associated Press reported.

Seems like all roads lead to Syria.

If/When we find Iraqi weapons in Syria the Left is going to criminally silly. The problem is that we really need to look now. I'm afriad that we're making the same mistake we made with Iraq: waiting.
