al-Qaida - British Suspects Arrested

But you wouldn't know that from this BBC report. Nowhere in the BBC report do they mention al-Qaida at all, even though one of the men is a senior al-Qaida figure. The AP report says this:

U.S. officials claim Barot is a senior al-Qaida figure, known variously as Abu Eisa al-Hindi, Abu Musa al-Hindi and Issa al-Britani.

And the opening AP paragraph says:

WASHINGTON - Three men with suspected al-Qaida ties, already in British custody, were charged Tuesday with a years-long plot to attack the New York Stock Exchange and other East Coast financial institutions.

Why did the BBC downplay the al-Qaida connection?

The BBC report also says this:

All three men have already been charged in the UK with conspiracy to commit a public nuisance by the use of radioactive materials, toxic gases, chemicals and/or explosives.

"A Public nuisance"?!? I wonder if that is really the charge given that we are talking about radioactive materials?

And for some strange reason the BBC report left out the Pakistan connection. The BBC report says this:

The three men were arrested in London as part of a series of co-ordinated anti-terror raids by police forces across the UK.

But that's not true according to the AP.

The plot was foiled when Pakistani investigators seized a computer with information from the surveillance. British authorities were alerted and arrested eight men, including the three suspects, on terrorism-related charges last August, Deputy Attorney General James B. Comey said.

To sum up, the BBC failed to mention that Barot is a senior al-Qaida figure, the Pakistan connection and falsely reported the arrest were just "part of a series of co-ordinated anti-terror raids", when in fact the arrests were a direct result of a tip off from Pakistan. The BBC also report the terrorists were charged "with conspiracy to commit a public nuisance". I'm not a lawyer, so maybe that is the correct charge but it doesn't sound right when we are talking about radioactive materials.

Why is the BBC downplaying this terrorist plot? Is the BBC trying to appease Muslims in the UK? Whatever the reasons, there are some important details left out of the BBC report.
