Media fall for climate hoax
So much for those layers of editors and fact checkers.
Here's yet another example of The New York Times and The Washington Post copy and pasting a story without checking it.

"In a story posted Monday morning, Reuters declared: “The Chamber of Commerce said on Monday it will no longer opposes climate change legislation, but wants the bill to include a carbon tax.”
Reuters updated the story to acknowledge the hoax, but it was too late: The Washington Post and the New York Times had already posted the fake story on their Web sites. "

Washington Post Admits to Bogus Quote
in trying to smear the right.
"The attack on O'Keefe cannot be brushed off as an innocent goof up, a slip of the pen, even slipshod journalism. Purposes are met in partisan reporting. It reminds one of the dishonesty of “Rathergate,” with falsified documents designed to score political pointts, not to serve truth. There is method to this madness, folks.
No wonder that 60% of public, by a respected survey by the Pew Institute, distrusts mainstream media, calling them inaccurate. Such a perception, if not reality, only hastens the mainstream's constant spiral downward, a death spiral, lowering public respect for the less esteemed Fourth Estate and now, its circulation too. Will they ever learn?
Bottom line: Democracy itself suffers from use of news as political weapon. "

Don't Blame Us, Blame the Newspaper We Copied It Out Of
That's the title of a post by Mark Steyn when he gave me a shout out over my observations about the blame game. Mark noted: "It's their choice to copy blindly any slab of hooey appearing in the Post and Times that happens to suit their prejudices without checking it for themselves."
You can add the Associated Press to the growing list of blind copiers.
Notice how the AP blames the Washington Post for its error. Also note the AP based its correction on the Post's correction and not on its own investigation of the facts! Sadly, this passes for jounalism these days.
Update: More here from the Post repoter involved.

"WASHINGTON — In a Sept. 19 story about the community organizing group ACORN, The Associated Press, based on an account in The Washington Post, erroneously quoted a conservative journalist saying he targeted the organization for hidden-camera videos because its voter-registration drives bring minority voters to the polls.
The Washington Post on Tuesday printed a correction about the quote. Although ACORN registers people mostly from those groups, the maker of the videos, James E. O'Keefe, did not specifically mention minorities, the newspaper said."

Washington Post in the tank for Obama
No surprise there. Imagine how far ahead McCain would be if the left wing media weren't in the tank for Obama.
