US - The Left's plan for Iran

Before you read this post from Huff and Puff, remind yourself what the Left's mantra is regarding nuclear weapons. "No more nukes" "No more nukes".

Here's the Left's plan for Iran.

1. Iran presently has a strong, rational incentive to get nukes.

There goes the "No nukes" slogan. Next thing you know the Left will want to get rid of all nuclear non-proliferation treaties. I mean seriously, read that again, "a strong, rational incentive to get nukes". Astounding! The Left are now saying there are sometimes rational incentives to have nukes. Their position used to be that anyone who wanted nukes was a madman. In short, they were against them before they were for them.

2. Iran has acted rationally and can be reasoned with.

Hmmm. Let's see, Iran's President has called for Israel to be "wiped off the map", says the Holocaust is a myth, believes he is here to hasten the reappearance of the 12th Imam and says when he recently spoke at the UN, that the hand of God touched him and he had a halo around his head.

The UN and the EU might disagree with the reasoning part.

3. There is plenty of time to negotiate.

Maybe, maybe not. The estimates for when Iran will have nukes ranges from 6 months to many years - we just don't know.

As for negotiating, again, just look at how that's worked out so far with the UN and the EU. Sure, by all means we need to try and negotiate but it doesn't look we have much time and Iran shows no signs of wanting to negotiate.

4. The Bush Administration's word is not credible.

That's pretty easy to refute.

5. The way to stop Iran, without causing more death, destruction and instability, is to remove the incentives for Iran to go nuclear, and negotiate.

Their plan for removing the incentives is, wait for it, vote for them. I'm underwhelmed.

I'll tell you what though, God I hope the Democrats adopt his plan and run with it. For once again, it proves the Democrats have no plan and are weak on defense.

UPDATE

This sound like Iran wants to negotiate?

TEHRAN, Iran - Iran rebuffed a request by the U.N. nuclear agency chief in talks Thursday that it suspend uranium enrichment, and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad insisted his country will not retreat "one iota." [...]

Hours earlier, Ahmadinejad said enrichment was a line in the sand from which the Iranians would not retreat.

"We won't hold talks with anyone about the right of the Iranian nation (to enrich uranium), and no one has the right to retreat, even one iota," Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying by the official Islamic Republic News Agency.

"Our answer to those who are angry about Iran achieving the full nuclear fuel cycle is just one phrase. We say: 'Be angry at us and die of this anger,'" Ahmadinejad said.

Well, so much for acting rationally.

UPDATE

Here's Iran's President acting rationally again.

"Like it or not, the Zionist regime is heading toward annihilation," Ahmadinejad said at the opening of a conference in support of the Palestinians. "The Zionist regime is a rotten, dried tree that will be eliminated by one storm."
